Emirates Flight Catering was formed in 2003 from Emirates Abela Catering Company. It now produces more than 55 million meals a year, and has 295 high-loader trucks and 89 special vehicles for the Airbus A380.
In early 2006, EKFC began operating a new catering hub dedicated to Emirates Airlines. The facility can produce up to 115,000 meals a day. The old facility now serves 120 international airlines operating out of Dubai Airport and catering to 25 lounges in Dubai airports. In 2006, EKFC expanded its Linencraft landing plant.
In July 2005, EKFC began operating its new Food Point facility with a 10,000 m2 (107,639 sq ft) facility, capable of producing 30 million meals annually.
When the British withdrew from Dubai in the late 1950s, Sheikh Saeed bin Maktoum al Maktoum announced an open sea, open sky and open trade policy to expand the country. He urged all government agencies to make a profit. The country aims to eliminate its dependence on limited oil reserves within 50 years.
